Six Suspects Apprehended After €12M Robbery on Gold Refining Lab in the French Republic

A team of six suspects equipped with assault rifles and handguns detonated charges to force entry into a gold refining laboratory located in Lyon, causing light wounds to five employees during described as the most recent prominent daytime heist to occur in the nation.

The bold operation occurred on Thursday afternoon, with police forces swiftly apprehending the individuals believed responsible and securing the stolen items estimated to be worth 12 million euros (£10.5M), according to officials.

Five staff members of the gold refining company were slightly hurt as a result of the detonation, and three of them were taken to a medical facility for examination, the regional prefecture announced. A total of twenty-eight staff were at the location when the thieves struck.

The individuals, considered career criminals, were taken into custody a brief time later in the nearby town of Vénissieux, authorities revealed.

A female accomplice who took part in the heist was taken into custody as well, officers confirmed.

“Six individuals who employed explosive devices in an attack on a metals processing plant in Lyon were apprehended red-handed,” the French interior minister announced via X, praising officers for their “decisiveness, speed and control”.

Military-style weapons, pistols and explosive materials were also confiscated.

The raid happened as law enforcement in France on the same day apprehended five additional individuals, featuring a main perpetrator, in relation to the recent audacious Louvre museum robbery.

Dozens of investigators have been searching for four perpetrators who utilized a lorry equipped with a moving lift and cutting equipment to breach a first-floor gallery at the prestigious institution on the nineteenth of October, escaping with precious items estimated to be worth 88 million euros.

In a different significant robbery, robbers the previous month forced their way into the Parisian museum of natural history, making off with gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was apprehended in the current month in Barcelona in relation to the burglary, prosecutors stated.

This series of robberies has sparked worry in the country regarding lax security at cultural venues and other facilities housing valuable items.
