New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD issued video stills earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in March.
