Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry mourns the loss to a authentic original whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
